It's official, the second baby girl has arrived in our house. We wondered how she'd compare to her sister and right out the gate she was adamant that she'd be completely different. Because of this, we conferred on her the name Skylin, different from her sister in every letter. (It had already made the short list, but it was the most dissimilar.)
Clocking in with a record speed, Skylin raced into our lives early on a Monday morning. Too fast for her parents, but not faster than the local firemen. Due to the unplanned home birth, Azura and Scout got to be present, along with 4 of Seattle's bravest.
Since Skylin came early, so did Grandma and Tia Mimi. It turned out to be necessary as Azura was so excited to be a big sister she would not be ignored!
Unlike her sister, Skylin can sleep like a gato. Mom and Dad had to wake her up overnight to get her fed, a new experience for them. Still fatigued, they really appreciated that all who visited would wake up at the crack of dawn with Azura so that they could get one more REM cycle in before emerging as zombies.
After a couple weeks with Ruthanne's fam, Grandpa and Mamy came cross country to pick up the slack. Scout really appreciated the walks with the extended fam; the new parents 2.0 had begun skipping the morning ones as the newborn chaos filtered through.
Cooking, cleaning, laundry, all the day-to-day stresses, we can't thank everyone enough who visited to help us survive. Even just a pair of hands to hold the baby. Without all the support we would not have been able to both attend all the doctor's appointments and Azura's parent-teacher conference. Thank you so much!
Azura has handled the transition from only child to big sister admirably. Incredibly sweet, affectionate, and most importantly gentle with her younger sister, Azura wants to show her the ropes of life in the house. There is some missing of Momma's attention, but it's buried deep under the excitement of a baby in the house! She loves her little sis!
As stated, from the beginning Skylin wanted to be her own person. From the early arrival, to the dissimilar sleep pattern, to the microclustering, to the different coos, to the distinct diaper...usage, she just insists on reminding her parents that every person is unique even from those they share DNA with.
Thanks to everyone for their messages of congratulations and generosity. We are blessed and loved.
